After your camp program ends, you may be allowed a post-program travel period in the United States. For many J-1 participants, this is commonly referred to as a grace period of up to 30 days.
Always confirm your actual program end date and travel deadline in your documents and GEC instructions.
The travel period is for tourism and cultural exploration only. You may not work, accept a new job, continue camp duties or earn wages after your approved program work dates end.
If a host or employer offers work after your program dates, contact GEC before taking any action.
Book travel that fits your budget, insurance coverage and departure deadline. Keep your plans realistic and build in extra time for transportation delays, weather or missed connections.
Review your insurance dates before traveling. Coverage may not extend through all personal travel plans, and routine or pre-existing care may not be covered.
Carry your passport, DS-2019, insurance information, emergency contacts and proof of onward travel while you travel.
