SEVIS is the U.S. government system used to track exchange visitor records. After you arrive, your sponsor must validate your participation. This confirms that you entered the United States and began the program as expected.
GEC can only complete this step when you provide accurate arrival and contact information.
Follow the instructions in your GEC online record and submit your arrival information as soon as required. Make sure your name, host camp, U.S. address and contact details are accurate.
Your SEVIS record must stay current throughout the program. If your address, phone number, email, camp placement or work details change, contact GEC before making the change whenever possible.
Do not change host camps or accept a different work opportunity without written approval from GEC.
Failure to complete arrival reporting or keep your information current may affect your J-1 status. It can also limit GEC’s ability to support you in an emergency or answer sponsor-related questions.
When in doubt, contact GEC early. A quick update is much easier to handle than a missing or incorrect SEVIS record.
